healthy girl. happy girl // best accessory

Hi bloggies! Hope everyone is having a great week so far. I started my Emergency Medicine Rotation this past Monday & have been working 10 pm to 8 am, so this week has been an odd one to say the least. It is so weird starting my day at 10pm & coming home & sleeping til 3/4pm. I feel like I am wasting my day. ha Luckily, tonight is my last night of working this awkward shift for some time! I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my new preceptor. I have already learned soooo much & I already feel that much more confident in my journey to being a practicing PA! woot woot!

Good news: Yesterday, I did get the chance to finally meet Lauran from Real Young Housewife of Southern VA! We went to starbucks & chatted away for a couple hours, losing track of time & realizing everything that we had in common! She is such a sweet girl & I am already looking forward to more coffee dates! :]

Now as for my post today, I am kicking off my new healthy girl, happy girl series! As many of you know I am in the health care field studying to be a Physicians Assistant, so not only does fashion, style, & graphic design interest me but I also have a huge passion for staying healthy! I hope to start sharing some of my insight with all of you lovely ladies in hopes of helping you create a better healthier lifestyle.  Too start off the series, today I have Shoshana from Top Dentists guesting posting about your best accessory, your smile!

p.s. if there is anything you would like for me to share with you, whether is be beauty related, womens health related, pregnancy related, etc leave me a comment below or shoot me an email:  ashlyn@letitbebeautiful.com. I would love some insight on what you all want to read/learn more about! xxA

What’s the first thing people notice about you when you meet them? Here’s a clue; It’s not your new Longchamp tote bag or your Chanel sun glasses. You guessed it! It’s your smile. Not only do your pearly whites greet people, but those with a bright, healthy smile are often perceived as smarter, more successful and more interesting.

Take care of your teeth at home: First things first. The best way to a good smile is to perfect how you take care of those bad boys at home. Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day and don’t just trust your smile with any old tooth brush. Using an electric tooth brush, even a cheaper model, really makes a big difference in keeping your mouth clean. Many people forget how crucial flossing is, but what they might not know is that by removing the little particles of food from between your teeth, you’re actually reducing the swelling in your gums and leaving a prettier smile. Throw in some mouthwash, and you’re bound to start a routine that will help keep your best accessory in top shape.

Visit the dentist: Dental phobia is one of the leading reasons why people avoid getting their teeth looked at. Don’t be one of them! A recent study suggests that these fears affect 40 percent of the west population. Visit your dentist twice and year, and treat issues as they come up. Your smile will not only thank you for it, but you will be less likely to have cavities or cosmetic issues in the future. These friends in white coats can also help whiten your teeth in their office, or using an over the counter product.

Cosmetic Dentistry: If you’d like to go the way of the stars, look into a cosmetic dentist. It’s not the cheapest way to a perfect your smile, but it is often very effective. Cosmetic dentists have all sorts of tools like veneers, which is a covering over the actual tooth, that while pricey and around $1400 per tooth, creates excellent results. They are often able to close spaces, minimize the discoloration, or eliminate chipped teeth with a simple in-office procedure. But, as a warning, make sure to find someone who focuses in this area, since there is no board certification, many people claim to be cosmetic dentists even if they do not specialize in the field.
